City begins construction for new community center on Calmar Drive
MONTGOMERY – Mayor Steven L. Reed joined City Councilman Glen Pruitt today for a groundbreaking of a new community center on Calmar Drive.
As part of Mayor Reed’s Montgomery Forward initiative, the Calmar Drive Community Center will be a 5,000 square foot facility that includes meeting rooms and classrooms for high-quality pre-K programming as well as workforce development and continuing education opportunities. Additionally, the facility will incorporate activities for senior citizens, high school students, and others.
The Calmar Drive Community Center complements the City’s ongoing overhaul of community center facilities across Montgomery. From repairs and new additions to new construction, these projects total nearly one million dollars.
Montgomery Forward is an initiative designed by Mayor Steven L. Reed to support a variety of long-needed capital improvement projects. Through this initiative, the City of Montgomery will invest $50 million into neighborhoods, community centers, public safety infrastructure, athletic facilities, and public transportation.
